Volunteer with your School or Youth Group

Interested in having your school or youth group build with Habitat for Humanity Toronto?

It is very important that you read through all of the information below to ensure that your group is eligible to build before you contact our office to schedule your group.

  • We accept school groups of 10 or 20 people.
  • Students must be at least 16 years of age or older to build with us.
  • We require that for every 5 students between the ages of 16 – 18, there must be one adult (over the age of 21) building. (ie. 15 students requires 3 adults)
  • A minor waiver must be signed by a guardian of each participating student that is between the ages of 16-18.
  • Waivers must also be signed by adults in the group.

All minor waivers must be signed appropriately with parent signatures and all participants must have their waivers with them when they arrive at the build site. If waivers are not completed, the individual may not be permitted to build.

The build day commences at 8:00am and ends at 4:00pm. In order to be eligible to build with us, the entire group must commit to being on the site at 8:00am sharp. We cannot accept groups that do not arrive promptly or that wish to leave early. We have a construction schedule that we must adhere to so that our families can move into their homes on the date that we’ve promised them. If groups arrive late or leave early, we don’t accomplish the tasks that need to be completed on a given day.

Fundraising is a required component of the Adopt a Day program. Although we are grateful for our volunteer groups that come out to give us their time, we also could not build without building supplies, and we rely on fundraised money to purchase these supplies. 100% of the money fundraised by groups goes toward purchasing construction materials for the site your group will be working on. Tax receipts will be provided for the full amount of all money donated. We ask that each participant raises $50 per person prior to the build day. We have an online fundraising tool that school groups can use to build a team page, where each student and chaperones can register as a team member and fundraise online by asking friends and family to sponsor their volunteer efforts. We also have pledge forms that students can use.

Your team is encouraged to exceed the minimum amount of $75 per person, as all the funds go directly towards a great cause!

"I found Habitat Toronto is a very friendly organization for low income families. No interest, no down payment, training for home ownership, the best thing is you can own a house even if you are on a low income.

We thank God and thank the staff of Habitat for Humanity Toronto who give us this opportunity. It's our dream; it's the goal of our life."
